The Hotel and Restaurant "Vittoria" is framed by a splendid
panorama, at the foot of one of the most beautiful villages in Italy,
Carunchio, just half an hour into the hills from the Adriatic Sea. The
village of Carunchio is perched on a little hill and from afar
appears to be suspended in nature, like a mirage, with a 360 degree view
from the top. The majestic Maiella mountain and its foothills create
the backdrop, and the "Valle dei Sogni" Nature
Park is nearby. It is in the hills inland of Vasto, in the green heart
of Abruzzo, among beechwood forests and green fields, with black pines
in the valleys, mugho pines on the ridges, and a bell tower that
rises up above the antique village houses.
The "Vittoria," started way back in 1967 out of the goodwill,
tenacity and experience of sisters Berenice and Filomena Miri, has
been remodeled and expanded, and today offers 16 rooms with bathrooms
and
color TVs, and a large air-conditioned restaurant seating up to 300
with a TV room and a bar.
The cuisine is characteristic of the farmhouse traditions in the Upper
Vastese area: a variety of salami - including ventricina made in-house,
homemade pasta, homegrown grilled lamb, mixed grill platters, and dishes
made with white truffles.
|
The specialty dish is: 'sagne
a pezzate con sugo di ventricina -
Large flat pasta squares with ventricina sauce'
"Sagne" are large thin squares of pasta
cooked 'al dente' and served with a sauce made from a sautè of onion,
celery, carrot, basil, bell pepper and hot pepper, to which is added
chunks of ventricina, tomato sauce and basil leaves.
